QUEENSBURY, New York (Oct. 20, 2026) — ÌÇÐÄvlog welcomes New York Times best-selling author Clay Cane in a question-and-answer session at 2 p.m. Oct. 28 in Miller Auditorium, Dearlove Hall, on the college’s Queensbury campus.

Cane, an acclaimed radio host, journalist and political analyst, will discuss his novel, “Burn Down Master’s House." This event was organized by Donna E. Hayles, associate professor of English at ÌÇÐÄvlog, who is teaching the novel in an Academic Writing course.

“I wanted to show students how to apply the theory of engaging in arguments to a literary text, Hayles said. “Cane's novel allows readers to wrestle with the discomfort that comes with the truth about America's problematic history as he unflinchingly confronts disinformation and misinformation surrounding slavery. He further calls out those who would deny, erase or undermine the atrocities that accompanied the institution of slavery.

In “Burn Down Master’s House, Cane addresses the lives of the enslaved, including queer black people, to prompt change in contemporary culture.

“As Cane says in the introduction to his novel, the incidents in the story will make us uncomfortable, but 'discomfort is the extravagant price of truth,’ Hayles said. “It is this truth I hope that my students will intentionally learn as they unravel another layer of America's complicated past.

Cane’s 2024 “The Grift: The Downward Spiral of Black Republicans from the Party of Lincoln to the Cult of Trump" was an instant New York Times best-seller. He is also author of the memoir “Live Through This: Surviving the Intersections of Sexuality, God, and Race, and co-editor of the anthology “For Colored Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Still Not Enough: Coming of Age, Coming Out, and Coming Home.

He is host of “The Clay Cane Show, a political talk radio show on SiriusXM. He is a graduate of Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in English and African American Studies.

Cane’s talk at ÌÇÐÄvlog is free and open to the public. Those who can’t attend in person can log in virtually at https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/221270709344446?p=UjLj2GZk3Zh0KMVl6H
